Car Sharing Policy update

Consultation has concluded

The first Car Sharing Policy was introduced by the City in 2011. This policy has recently been updated and we invited feedback.

This consultation is now closed. Submissions are being assessed and a report will be prepared for Council. A link to the report, and notice of the Council meeting that will consider it, will be posted on this page.

The updated policy was on exhibition and open for comment from Monday 18th April until Monday 20 June 2016.

Changes to the policy included:

  • Ensuring allocated spaces can’t be on-sold or transferred to new operators;
  • An annual fee for operators to cover administration costs;
  • Setting minimum thresholds that are to be reached before new spaces are created; and
  • Allocation of spaces to car sharing operators until 2020.

Car sharing has grown dramatically since the policy was adopted in 2011, and one in 10 of the city’s drivers now use car sharing.
