Sydney Metro City and Southwest

Transport for NSW is currently seeking community comments about the alignment and stations for Sydney Metro, including a new station in either Waterloo or at Sydney University.

Sydney Metro is the new name for major rail projects and has two core components:

  • Sydney Metro Northwest – formerly the 36km North West Rail Link. This project is now under construction and will open in the first half of 2019; and
  • Sydney Metro City & Southwest – a new 30km metro line linking with Metro Northwest at Chatswood, and then under Sydney Harbour, through the CBD and south west to Bankstown. It is due to open in 2024.

A Project Overview has been prepared to outline Transport for NSW's proposal, which is a basis for those making a submission to form their views.

Community feedback is open until Friday 17 July, with residents invited to make a submission on the project to help clarify the alignment and stations for the project.

Transport planners and experts will also be available at community information sessions throughout June - see their Sydney Metro consultation forum for details.
