Proposed raised median: Henderson Road and Gerard Street, Alexandria

Closed for comment

The City of Sydney is proposing to improve safety at the intersection of Henderson Road and Gerard Street, Alexandria.

The proposal is to provide a raised median in Henderson Road to reduce the number of vehicle crashes at this intersection.

In the 5-year period from 2008 to 2013, a total of 9 crashes were recorded at the intersection. Of these, 7 were injury crashed and 1 crash involved a pedestrian. Further analysis has shown these crashes involve right-turning vehicles into, or out of Gerard Street.

The City has nominated this location with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) for funding under the 2015/16 Black Spot Program, which funds safety improvements at dangerous locations where high rates of road crashes occur.

The proposed safety improvements include:
  • realigning the westbound travel lanes of Henderson Road between Garden and Mitchell roads
  • changing the priority control for northbound motorists on Gerard Street from a Give Way sign to a Stop sign
  • relocating 2 timed parking spaces from the southern side of Henderson Road into Gerard Street.
You can download the concept sketch from the Document Library on this page.
