The City of Sydney encourages the use of its parks and open spaces by the community for their fitness and wellbeing. We provide access to these parks free of charge to fitness training groups.

The draft Outdoor Fitness Training Voluntary Code of Conduct has been developed in response to the growing popularity of outdoor training. We would like your feedback.

The draft Code supports fair access to public land for fitness trainers in harmony with other park users and residents. It also aims to protect parks from damage through inappropriate use, such as using and damaging trees and park furniture.

Submissions must be received by 31 January 2016 and emailed to mdriver@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or mailed:

  • Council endorses amended code of conduct

    An amended Outdoor Fitness Training Voluntary Code of Conduct was endorsed at Council on Monday 11 April 2016.

    After hearing your feedback, the following items were amended:


    • The proposed restrictions on the use of imported training equipment were relaxed to allow trainers to use portable hand-held equipment, however trainers are encouraged to be mindful of the impacts of their equipment and to consider using protective measures such as matting to protect surfaces.

    • The proposed maximum group size was increased to a suggested 18 persons though trainers are encouraged to use a risk based approach to tailor their group size to... Continue reading

    An amended Outdoor Fitness Training Voluntary Code of Conduct was endorsed at Council on Monday 11 April 2016.

    After hearing your feedback, the following items were amended:


    • The proposed restrictions on the use of imported training equipment were relaxed to allow trainers to use portable hand-held equipment, however trainers are encouraged to be mindful of the impacts of their equipment and to consider using protective measures such as matting to protect surfaces.

    • The proposed maximum group size was increased to a suggested 18 persons though trainers are encouraged to use a risk based approach to tailor their group size to the characteristics of the site and the class activities and experience of trainees

    • Use of rotundas and shelters is permitted in inclement weather but not when formal events and activities are occurring
